POTHOS
Alexander the Great (356-323 BC) was arguably the greatest military strategist, tactician and ruler in the world history. By the Age of 23 he put his first step on the soil of the Persian Empire.
There he made his first move to the place in Homer’s Ilias as known as Troy, where Alexander’s greatest Idol “Achilleus” fell during the Trojan War based on the Legend! Arriving at this place for the first time a nameless passion took over Alexander to solve the unsolvable, to reach the unreachable, that he called POTHOS.
The meaning that would be his war slogan on his Campaign to Conquer the entire known World. It is the indeterminate, indefinite desire, to dare the not dared, to know the unknown, to open the Gate to unrecognized Spaces.
POTHOS means desire, longing for, regret, want. When you first look at this translation you may be surprised to find want, desire and regret all in the same word. But if you try to think about it, you will find this makes sense. Within most of us is a need to learn, to develop, to achieve our potential. It is this painful restlesness that pothos expresses.
